Orange has announced the launch of Orange Cash, the UK’s first major contactless prepaid Mastercard card.  Allowing customers to take total control of their spending, the prepaid card is a secure alternative to carrying around cash and can be used in over 30 million locations that accept Mastercard within the UK and abroad, as well as online. The announcement follows the launch of the Orange contactless credit card in 2009 and this year’s roll out of a commercial contactless mobile payments service on Orange.

Gone are the days of parents giving cash as pocket money – they will now be able to give their children their own fully-fledged prepaid Mastercard card.  Perfect for the first time bank card user, the Orange Cash prepaid card costs just £5 and can be loaded up to £5,000* with the peace of mind that you can never spend more than you load.  The card is also ideal students who want to manage their spending and for holidaymakers who want a hassle free, safe alternative for cash so they can focus on kicking back and enjoying the sun.  Orange Cash prepaid cards can be loaded with money at over 22,000 shops and petrol stations across the UK with the PayPoint logo, at 12,000 Post Offices, over 450 Orange Retail stores and online on the Orange Cash website.

The Orange Cash card is also the UK’s first prepaid card to be offered with rewards that can be used on the customer’s Pay As You Go mobile phone (Orange Pay As You Go phones only).  Earning one Orange prepaid reward point for every £1 spent***, customers can redeem their rewards** online for free texts, airtime, credit on Orange Pay As You Go phones or vouchers for use in Orange shops.

Orange Cash prepaid customers also benefit from the ease and convenience afforded by contactless technology.  By simply holding their Orange Cash card close to a contactless reader, customers can pay for purchases of £15 and under without the hassle of loose change.  Contactless payments offer a quicker and more convenient way to pay.

The prepaid card has been developed for Orange by Prepay Solutions, the UK and Europe’s leading prepaid services company. Gilles Coccoli, Managing Director of PrePay Solutions, comments on the new product: “As a company closely involved in new prepaid card developments across the world, we see this as one of the most impressive and innovative cards to be launched yet. It has been an exciting project for us.”

Orange Cash also helps customers manage their money securely from their mobile while on the move.  After registering their card, customers can access the main features of their Orange Cash account from their mobile to keep up to date on any transactions.  In addition Orange Pay As You Go customers can manage their account just by texting 311.  It’s also easy to top up an Orange Pay As You Go Phone from the Orange Cash account, while funds can also be transferred between Orange Cash cards.

Pippa Dunn, Vice President of Orange Propositions said: “We’re excited to be launching yet another innovative product for UK consumers in the financial services space. With Orange Cash, users will not only benefit from the convenience and control our new contactless prepaid card will offer them, but the unique ability to collect and redeem rewards against future Orange products and services – helping their money to really work for them each time they spend.”
