The MeCard MasterCard prepaid card is perfect for families with teenagers (13-17). MeCard is safe, secure, and easy to use. Online accounts link the parent card to teen card, enabling the parent to share money in the form of pocket money or gifts, at the click of a button.

Parents can view balance of teen cards and top-up money if it's running low. Money can be loaded to parent card by BACS, DD, in post office or paypoint. Parent cards are FREE and each teen cards cost £9.99 but comes pre-loaded with £10 to spend ANYWHERE.

The Good
With a free parent card and a £9.99 teen card, the MeCard team are literally giveing you 2 cards for the price of one. With No monthly fees, free point of sale usage and low ATM withdrawal charges, this is an excellent new teen card offering that promises a lot more through competitions, giveaways and money saving tips.

The Not so Good
The MeCard prepaid card is only available in GBP which means usage aroad will incur an FX fee. Furthermore, there is an annual service fee of £9.99 which may not seem high as such but only time will tell whether the competitions, giveaways and money saving tips provide enough added value. A good proposition nonetheless.

Application Process

• Apply online - Just visit the MeCard Prepaid Card site and apply for your card. Remember, there are No credit checks to be carried out, just a simple on the spot name/address check to confirm your identity and address. That's it. Your cards arrive within 7 working days and must then be activated online or by telephone.

The MeCard comes as a parent and youth prepaid card pack and is a pay as you go prepaid card with no monthly fees and no transaction fees and a low ATM usage fee too.

Online Account Management and Self Servicing
You can manage your MeCard Prepaid MasterCard online using the MeCard online account management facility. The facility is provided free to all MeCard prepaid card customers. Online Account Management allows you to:

• Log-in to view your balance
• Load money onto your card and
• Move funds between cards.

Using Abroad
The MeCard MasterCard prepaid card is available in GBP only but cane be used abroad wherever you see the MasterCard symbol. However, it is primarily suited to usage at home in the UK and usage abroad will be subject to a foreign exchange charge.

A point of sale transaction abroad is free and ATM withdrawals abroad cost £1.50 per transaction in addition to the foreign exchange fee. So whilst you can use your MeCard prepaid card abroad, it is best avoided.

Also, as a prepaid MasterCard, your prepaid card can be used at over 30 million global locations that accept MasterCard as well over 2 million ATM's to make withdrawals.

Note, if you mainly aim to use your prepaid card abroad, then it may be worth considering dedicated travel money cards.

You can load your MeCard pre paid MasterCard in a number of way.

• Using a Bank Transfer - FREE
• Using Debit Card Online - £1.00
• Using Cash at PayPoint - 3.00% per load

Note: The minimum load amount is £10.00 for the Parent Card which can be used to load teen cards and the maximum load at PayPoint is £500.

Complaints Procedure
If you are unhappy with any element of your MeCard Prepaid MasterCard or the service related to it, you can send complaints by downloading the disputes form from the "Contact Us" page and sending the completed form to MeCard Customer Services, PO BOX 67528, London, EC2P 2HU.

MeCard will investigate all complaints at the earliest and mae every effort to resolve your complaint to your satisfaction.

If you are still not satisfied after following these procedures, you can ask the Ombudsman to review the complaint. Alternatively you can write to Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London, E14 9SR or telephone 0845 080 1800. Calls may be recorded. Note that the FSCS scheme does not apply to prepaid cards.

Awards
The MeCard has only been launched recently and is definitely one of the few youth prepaid cards to watch out for in the future as well.
