One of the sporting calendar’s biggest events is now a matter of weeks away, with the New England Patriots ready to battle it out against the Seattle Seahawks for Super Bowl XLIX.

It marks the first time in a decade that a team will compete for a consecutive Super Bowl, after the Seahawks demolished the Denver Broncos in last year’s big game.

This year, quarterback Russell Wilson will go head-to-head with the Patriots’ Tom Brady following an overtime victory against the Green Bay Packers. The Patriots meanwhile cruised past the Indianapolis Colts to set up the Super Bowl contest.

The big game

The game is scheduled to take place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, making it the second Super Bowl to take place there.

The stadium won’t hold many fond memories for the Patriots though, as they lost out 17-14 to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

For fans there is plenty to look forward to though with festivals and parties taking place in downtown Phoenix and in other parts of the town. It’s important to remember that Great Phoenix covers a very large area though as more than 25 cities and towns will likely be hosting events in the build up to the big game.

The half-time show

There’s bound to be fireworks at the half-time show as Katy Perry is set to be joined by Lenny Kravitz, appearing as her special guest.

Rumours are everywhere that someone else will join them too, although it is all very secretive at this stage.

Frozen’s Idina Menzel is also due to perform the national anthem before the game while John Legend will sing America the Beautiful, providing additional entertainment for fans.

It is the half time show that is especially popular with viewers though, as last year the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Bruno Mars were watched by 112 million people in the United States alone.

Managing finances when travelling

While attending the Super Bowl or ones of its many parties does not come cheap, the experience of the big game is one that is simply too good to miss.

Travelling with a USD prepaid travel card can provide money to spend without the need to carry lots of travellers’ cheques or foreign currency.

With a prepaid card you can only spend the amount which is on it at any given time, making budget management possible, although it can be topped up if you so wish.

Additional security exists on these cards, while the exchange rate seen will be the one when the original transaction took place – providing protection should the exchange rate vary dramatically during a trip.
